Lemonade just earned itself the spotlight of summer drinks this season following Beyonce’s inspirational album. Because when life gives you lemons, you don’t make just any lemonade – you make some sassy lemonade. Who knew a simple drink could be such a strong metaphor for being a tough woman? Check out these recipes that give your favorite summer beverage the punch, kick or baseball bat knock they need:

1. Bold frozen blueberry lemonade
Temperatures are starting to rise, so you need a bold, icy drink to keep you cool – and keep your cool. Here’s a quick recipe from Real Simple to satisfy that mood:

  • 1 and 1/12 cups blueberries
  • 1 cup fresh lemonade
  • 1/2 cup fresh mint leaves
  • 1/4 cup confectioners’ sugar
  • 3 cups ice

This one has some easy instructions – throw all the ingredients in a blender and whip until smooth or chunky, depending on how you like it. If you have any leftover mint, use it to garnish your powerful concoction.

2. Saucy strawberry hibiscus lemonade
If you want a truly saucy take on lemonade then look no further – Martha Stewart has you covered. Check out this recipe for her strawberry hibiscus lemonade:

  • 6 cups water
  • 6 hibiscus tea bags
  • 2 pounds strawberries
  • 1/4 cup and 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1/4 cup and 2 Tbsp. fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup simple syrup.

Begin by bringing water to a simmer in a small saucepan. Then remove from the heat, add the tea bags and let steep for 30 minutes – time it with your BABY-G watch with an alarm. As this marinates, hull and chop the strawberries in half. Once the tea is set, pour into a pitcher and let cool. Mix the strawberries and sugar in a bowl and set over a pot of simmering water for 25 minutes so the strawberries get juicy. Strain this mixture into the pitcher, and add the lemon juice and simple syrup. Stir, serve and revel in your greatness.

3. Edgy orange lemonade
Nothing like some citrus to give you an edge. Get into double-trouble with this combination from Taste of Home:

  • 1 and 3/4 cups sugar
  • 2 and 1/2 cups water
  • 1 and 1/2 cups fresh lemon juice
  • 1 and 1/2 cups orange juice
  • 2 Tbsp. grated lemon peel
  • 2 Tbsp. grated orange peel

Grab a large saucepan and pour in the sugar and water over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Let this cool and then add the lemon and orange juices and peels. Cover mixture and let stand at room temperature for one hour. Strain the syrup and then refrigerate. Once it’s chilled, you’re free to enjoy.

Queen Bey’s lemonade
OK, but if you’re looking for the ultimate drink of sass then why not give Beyonce’s a try? Vogue captured the sacred recipe which Beyonce shared in her visual album and reported the following:

  • 1 pint of water
  • 1/2 pound of sugar
  • 8 juiced lemons
  • 1/2 lemon zest

And in the words of Beyonce herself, she instructed you do the following:

“Take one pint of water, add a half-pound of sugar, the juice of eight lemons and the zest of half of a lemon. Pour the water from one jug into the other several times, strain through a clean napkin.”
