Whether you’re traveling to a tropical island or exploring a foreign city, there are plenty of fun ways to stay fit.

Few things are more rejuvenating than a stress-free, blissful vacation. Though restoring your mind and body is a very important component of a much-deserved getaway, it certainly doesn’t hurt to stay active during your trip. Whether you’re traveling to a tropical island or exploring a foreign city, there are plenty of fun ways to stay fit.

Here are a few activities to consider on your next vacation:

1. Try paddle boarding
If you’re anywhere near water, chances are paddle boarding is an option. Don’t be scared off by the idea of having to maneuver a large board through the water while standing up – it’s really much easier than it looks! Not only is it a simple sport to pick up, it’s also a great workout. Just one hour of paddle boarding can burn up to 700 calories, according to Shape magazine. Paddle boarding is a full-body workout, putting your core, balance, and arm and leg muscles to the test.

2. Take a hike
No wilderness getaway is complete without a hike. Hiking is the perfect way to build up your endurance and tone your muscles while surrounding yourself in the beauty of nature. Fitday also pointed out that hiking helps to prevent osteoporosis and benefits your heart. Before you set out, make sure you pack a bag with energizing snacks, plenty of water, a map and a camera to capture the view.

3. Do a walking tour
If you’re traveling to a foreign city that you’ve never been to before, chances are you’re going to want to do some sightseeing. Skip the bus tour and opt for a walking one instead. Not only will you see a lot more, but you’ll also fit in some exercise. Exploring on your own is a good way to experience the area in an authentic and natural way. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes to avoid painful blisters.

4. Get up early for sunrise yoga
Vacations are the perfect opportunity to sleep in and catch a few more hours of sleep than you normally would be able to. However, waking up early to hit the beach and practice yoga as the sun rises is an experience worth getting out of bed for. Early morning yoga promotes healthier habits and a clearer mind that will stick with you throughout the day, reported Do You Yoga. Don’t forget the spectacular view you’ll have as the sun slowly rises in the distance. If waking up that early really isn’t your cup of tea, consider sunset yoga as an alternative.

5. Go for a bike ride
Break free from spin class and return to the great outdoors! Bike riding is an opportune workout almost anywhere, whether you’re cruising through a beach town or racing through the woods. Regardless of how fast, slow, short or far you go, bike riding boasts a long list of benefits. Women’s Health magazine reported that riding a bike tones muscles and sculpt calves without putting too much stress on your joints.
