With cold weather in full swing, you’ve likely started bringing your warm accessories out of storage. When the weather outside is frightful, there’s nothing like a comfy scarf to add both warmth and style to your look. While the material, color and length of your cold-weather scarf is largely a matter of personal preference, you can have a lot of fun styling the look no matter what kind you prefer to wear.
This winter, give your wardrobe a new edge by trying these fresh ways to tie your favorite scarf.
1. The tie on
The simple “tie on” style from Women’s Health magazine is a quick and easy solution for casual days. Start by holding the scarf at either end and loosely twisting it a few times. Then just wind the scarf around your neck twice or until the material is used up and tuck in the loose ends. The style is a perfect addition to your favorite boho or hipster look and looks great with a floppy felt hat.
2. The knot
“The knot” is a slightly more challenging style of tying your scarf that will give your casual outfits a dressier look. According to Cosmopolitan magazine, you should start by folding the material in half widthwise. Place the scarf behind your neck so that you have both ends in one hand and the section that is folded in the other. Bring one end through the fold and then bring the other end over the top and pull it through the fold as well so that it comes out on the opposite end. This creates the knotted effect.
3. The waterfall
Talbots recommended the waterfall style for an easy-to-learn tying option. Start by draping the scarf around your neck so that one end is about twice as long as the other. Wrap the longer end around your neck and then take the corner of that end and tuck it into the scarf at the nape of your neck. It’s that simple! In seconds you’ll have a gentle cascade of material that will complement your favorite long-sleeved tee perfectly.
